The carnival usually features the theme that all the bands perform with and this year’s own being, “Season of Sweetness”, which usually starts with Dry Runs into the main festivities in December, is a grand showcase of culture, creativity, and entertainment. It also features a series of colorful events, including street parades from unique bands, concerts, fashion shows, cultural displays, and much more.

THE CARNIVAL BANDS;

They are distinguished by their colors; The Seagull is the Red band and is known as the most stylish and coordinated band, Passion 4 is the Green band and is known as the most successful band, Masta Blasta is the orange and largest band, Bayside is the Blue band and Freedom is the Yellow band. 

 The streets of Calabar come alive with extravagant floats adorned with dazzling lights, showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of local artisans. Christmas in Calabar can never be complete without these festivals. Foremost of which is Funfest. What started as a small gathering at Marina Resort, Calabar has now become so large to the extent that the UJ Esuene Stadium was sold out. It is a festival that features many artists and their performances to a very energetic audience, young and old alike. 

FESTIVE ILLUMINATION AND DECORATIONS

As December approaches, Calabar becomes a symphony of lights. The city's streets, parks, and major landmarks are adorned with elaborate decorations, twinkling lights, and ornate displays. The famous Marina Resort, Christmas Village in Municipal Garden, Millennium Park, Fun City, and other key locations turn into enchanting wonderlands, drawing visitors with their festive charm and creating a magical ambiance.

While the Christmas Carnival is a major highlight, Calabar's celebrations also encompass traditional cultural festivities. The Efik people, the indigenous ethnic group of Calabar, infuse their customs into the Christmas celebrations. 

Utomo Obong, a very colorful, magnificent and grand occasion that brings the entire Efik Kingdom together to pay homage to their King, the Obong of Calabar. It features a traditional display of masquerades, and performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region, providing an authentic experience for those seeking a deeper understanding of local traditions.
