“I’ll race you,” Ikenna said and zoomed off like an antelope, his kini dangling between his legs. I’d imagine as I raced after him hoping not to lose for the 50th time as we made it to the village square for Baba Fegi’s noontime stories and I ran into this new world of mine.
My eyes blinked open as I searched for a glimpse of where I was and why the bed felt like water, too soft Baami would have complained. “You’re awake.” I heard a familiar voice juggle into the room with what looked like breakfast, similar to what Fegi served me, some nights back. She was the biggest girl in the village, and the only reason why I attended her father’s noon-time stories was the glorious sight of seeing Fegi, my woman until she dumped me.
But she was here, what was she doing here? In my big shirt and boxers? I tried to process it all before she came on me, my senses leaving me, all but for a moment.
“I thought you left me,” I mumbled, after gaining consciousness, She chuckled, shining the expensive diamond ring in my face, it must have cost a fortune. “You’re engaged.” I crumbled, and stared at the window blind, “What are you talking about?” She laughed, “You proposed in the presence of all our friends yesterday.” I busted into laughter and then I looked at my surroundings one more time, observing the gigantic wardrobes, and the big TV screen, our room had a bathroom, it looked bigger than the ones we all shared in Papa’s flat, this had to be a dream, I yelled and dashed away from the bed, shutting the door behind me.
“Wetin dey chase you?” Ikenna said downstairs, he was in a suit, where did he see money to get one? “Wetin dey chase you?" this time his voice came from within as the big mansion slowly faded, far away from my ideal world.
“Why you wake me up?” I frowned.
“Why you fall?” Ikenna returned the favor.
It was all a dream.
