In the depths of my soul, a question resides
Where is home?
Where do I hide?
Where do I find a place to call mine,
To abide, belong, and rest?
Where can my heart find its way?
Is home where the heart first beats,
In the cradle of the dawn?
Or the creaking that greets quiet nights,
When all the world is still?
Is it a house with walls and a door,
Where its laughter fills the winding streets,
And dreams gently find courage to fly?
Is it in whispered words?
In soft goodbyes?
Perhaps it’s in the warmth of touch -
A hand that knows your scars
And when the world is too much
Love’s light soothes the burn
Is home the feeling I've been searching for?
The sense of peace that eludes me?
Or the dreams that linger still?
I’ve wandered through cities and towns so fair
But none have felt like home
I’ve chased the sunsets and danced in the rain
But still, I wonder, where is home again?
I've caught home in a fleeting glance
In a smile across the street
In an unfading memory from long ago
That never fades away
But brings back the thought of those who wandered
Through shadows and paths, unknown
Who sought the light of some faint star
Yet ended up feeling alone
What then is home?
Maybe a dream, a vision yet to come
A place where I’ll find my course
Where I'm undone
Where my heart will heal and my soul will mend
Where I’ll transcend.
I ask again, where is home?
Is it in the journey’s end?
In the arms of loyal friends,
Or where the heart can mend?
It may be a place, a person, an emotion deep,
A state of mind, or more—
Where your truest self can sleep
And feel forever sure.
Until I come to roost at home, I'll roam, and I’ll search
For where my heart can perch.
And though the journey may be long and hard,
I’ll hold on to hope's shining star.
For home is where the heart can have its leave
In joy, in pain, in peace—
A haven found within the chest
Where all our wanderings cease.
