I wish I could take you in my arms

and lift you out of the darkness you cover yourself with.

I wish I could kiss you,

and suck away all your pain as I suckle your tongue.

I wish I could reach into your chest,

massage your heart until it remembers how to beat on its own.

I wish I could wipe away the reflection you see in the mirror,

and show you everything I see when I behold you.

I wish I could replace the tears glistening in your eyes

with the stars.

I wish I could take the memories that haunt you,

the ones that leave you running,

and give you moments you'd never let go of.

I wish I understood the ache that threatens to drown you—

and be the life raft that keeps you afloat.

I wish I could gather all the broken pieces of you,

and puzzle you whole.

But I have no horses.

Hug me like you want to absorb all my worries.

Look at me like I’m rare and beautiful.

Paint me with the most expensive paint.

Worship me — in words, in actions, in utter devotion.

Till the blind recognize my face,
