The other day, I posted about how harmful it was to feed our subconscious with certain narratives. To be honest, I was furious. I couldnāt believe people I had shared the same classroom with would be posting the āGeh gehā boy, whose content was focused on degrading women online.
They were happy to post that they were students at his university. How can a university graduate associate themselves with someone who referred to the female genitalia as āToToā? I couldnāt for the life of me understand it. The same men who would bash women who posted saida boj's video, who was also the female version of the geh geh boy. Two people whom society was supposed to frown on, yet their videos had millions of likes and views.
My sister, Ifeyinwa, said the guy also had beneficial things to say, like asking women to hustle for their money, and in her opinion, I was always doing ā Women supporting womenā when it comes to everything. She didn't see why I was angry at the boy. I found it funny because anybody and everybody who knows me is aware that I have been championing the importance of having your own money as a woman, especially in todayās world. So, I told her that even a spoilt clock is correct twice daily. But because I hold my sister in high regard, I decided to go to this guyās page to see if his content was truly beneficial, as my sister said. Prior to this, I had only seen clips of his content online.
From his first post, which was how to know your girlfriend is a glorified Ashawo, I instantly knew there was something wrong. I have lived 27 years on this earth and never interacted with men like him. I do not know anybody who addressed women with such profanity as he did, so how did I stoop so low to get to this point? Call it classism, but I firmly believe that men with that type of thought process are beneath me because it means that they do not read and hence can only think from a very limited viewpoint. They also interact with a certain caliber of women, hence why they are the way they are. There was no need for me to go further and continue watching his videos. Well, two things can be true. His content degrades women and in the same vein may contain helpful tips for Men, but in my opinion in the long run whoever listens to his type of content will have themselves to blame when they find a good woman but destroy the relationship due to months of subconsciously consuming such content.
So, I decided it was time for a social media cleanse. I canāt even remember the last time I learnt anything new or meaningful . I have been feeding my subconscious with rubbish, I was getting less sleep, and I wasnāt meeting personal deadlines. I was also less inclined to write, and I was second-guessing my spelling. Here is what I want to do; I want to start watching educational content on YouTube, reading books, and listening to healthy podcasts. I want to see if it will make a difference in my life and mental health. I work remotely and will be resuming next week and I want to see if this will translate to getting better results and meeting deadlines.
I am writing this on the go, with zero editing and zero filters. I hope that I will stay true to my goal and see this new phase through to the end.
