Dear Ore,

How have you been? Recently I have found myself thinking of you. I trace the journey together trying to find exactly where our road spilt. Who decided to depart? Who left the other behind? It always felt like we were meant to always be together, what happened to us?

It’s been five years since we spoke. I don’t know if I told you that I left Nigeria but anyway I’m in Germany. I'm adjusting to everything fine but I still miss the Amala we bought from Iya Moria.

I miss you more than Amala.I saw your post on instagram, you have a two year old? Wow so we are the new parents. That's so interesting. Do you remember when my mother sent me to buy roasted panla from that lady beside your house but instead I stopped by to gist with you till she came looking for me? She was crying in fear that I got lost but once she saw me in your house, the tears stopped as she flung her slippers towards me. I still have a scar from that canning.

Ehen, before I forget, my testimony has arrived. A year ago I gave birth to a biracial baby! That’s what they call them here! I’m now the mother of an Oyinbo. What I bought so many soaps and creams for, my daughter now has it for free. Her nose is not as straight as I’d have loved, neither is her skin as white but Insha Allah she too will marry a white man and that will improve her children.

Ore I’m so proud, I look at her and I’m very happy. She brings me joy. You know that there’s a way black looks dirty. That is why I’m even messaging you.

Ore, I saw that your partner is very dark.. hmmm. I know love is blind but it should be up to that. I also saw your baby is a bit dark. I’m writing this to send you Lade’s White number . You should remember her, she’s my trusted supplier for shine - shine soap and cream.

Ore, please do something about your daughter’s skin fast oh. When you want to buy, tell her you are coming from me. She will be sure to give you a discount.

Write back as soon as you can. I’ve missed you so much.
