Felicia stared wide-eyed as her mother shared the donuts for her and her sister Chisom, they had been anticipating what their mother would bring from work. Every time she stayed a second longer their big eyes would watch the tick-tock on the clock and smile when it passed 4pm. They could trust their mother to compensate them with goodies and so when she came back with creamy donuts that evening, it took all the hometraining in them to not do a backflip.
'Here you go Felicia' Their mother handed them each a donut and Chisom bit into her donut, the cream filling her mouth while Felicia immediately went into the kitchen, looked for a plastic plate and covered hers neatly.
'Ah ah why are you not eating it?' Chisom eyed her suspiciously.
'I'm saving it' Felicia replied proudly examining the donut in the tupperware like it was The Mona Lisa and the plastic, the glass walls in Louvre Museum, Paris.
'Donuts are for eating Felicia' Chisom reminded her.
'Don't beg me when i'm eating it later' Felicia retorted with a sly smile and covered the container.
It had been three whole days after and Chisom still eyed Felicia holding the tupperware with her beloved donut, she had slept with it beside her pillow, she took it in the bathroom and washed the case from the outside, it was inside her school bag and in her desk in school and when she would come home she would keep it on the table and stare at it.
'Felicia, are you ever going to eat that donut?' Chisom looked at her. Their mother walked in from work with a pack of samosa, she eyed the donut on the table.
'Chisom you can eat this alone since Felicia has a donut'
Before Felicia could argue, their mother had disappered into the curtains and Chisom had started to down the samosas. Aggreived, Felicia decided that the right time to eat her beloved donut was there and then, the perfect time had come and as soon as she opened her beloved container, the ordour went to her eyes and caused them to be teary before murdering her nostrils. The fresh white milk had turned an ugly yellow and the smooth gold-brown donut had ugly molds in green building on it. Felicia knew that she had missed out on it forever, In trying to save it, she lost it. Chisom watched her face move from adoration to disgust.
'I told you donuts were for eating like life is for living' Chisom laughed.
