Feyisayo was over this man giving her crumbs when she is a whole meal. It was giving zero effort and she wasn’t here for it. What do you mean, he asked her to pay for his hair when he in turn wasn’t pulling his weight? Where’s the energy? The vim? Lacking!
Anyhow she in turn didn’t have time for all that one. She has one goal, to get her paper! She wanted to chase the bag and ofcourse, secure it, after all they say, very aptly, that Nigerian women achieve and she was out to do just that!
That morning, she picked up her black leather satchel with it’s cute pink trimmings and entered her sleek automobile,or as her brother liked to call it, machine!
When she drove the car, it’s engine made a very sleek and sexy sound that she loved. She loved her cars and always thought of them as sleek machines rather than just a plain of transport. Her machine was a sleek and shiny black sports car which honestly shouldn’t be on a Lagos road but quite honestly aesthetics over practicality, yes?
An architect at Smith and Co in the heart of the island, Feyisayo was slim thick, not classically beautiful but she had curves and was exceptionally street smart. She didn’t finish at the top of her class, not even the middle tbh but what she lacked in book smarts, she over compensated for in hardwork, packaging and well, grace.
Her car was cruising down her street in Orchid road when she heard a funny sputter that was in the moment not as funny as she had to meet her construction meeting at the site in Banana Island with her top client Chief David Williams. God abeg o! What in the good lord is going on? Shebi Mr. Ayeni said all is good last time he fixed the engine? What now ?
She gently extricated herself from the seatbelt and came down from the car. She saw an agbero right beside a corner of the road with menacing eyes and she nervously gulped suddenly parched and scared. She prayed a quick and quite prayer. He suddenly stood up approaching her and she quietly prayed this time louder. She started playing with her golden bracelet, a gift from her late Dad. All of a sudden, she heard a familiar voice, deep and authoritative,”Ogbeni Kilode?!” She turned to her left and she could have hugged this man. It was Chinedu her neighbour I’m his dress pants and his blue shirt rolled up to reveal sexy biceps that almost made Feyisayo lose focus. Chinedu, her 6’3 neighbour was a proper Lagos boy although he came from Enugu State. He always spoke up during Estate meetings and made the chairman sit up. He was feared and respected but wasn’t interested in leadership.
She longed for this man privately, they were cordial,a smile or two but not affectionate. It appeared that they both had busy schedules. His sleek SUV was parked behind hers. She saw the agbero take one look at Chinedu hiss and mutter Omoyigbo under his breath. He walked away and took his red eyes with him.
Feyisayo suddenly felt very hot and bothered and could understand why women liked heros in movies but this wasn’t a movie ,not even cool Nollywood so she quickly rearranged herself and quickly turned to him and said “Thank you so much Chinedu, I really appreciate that.” She looked at him and watched him soften and smile? ,
She had never seen that happened and oh it was a sight for sore eyes. She reminded herself of her meeting at Banana Island .
“Omo it’s fine jare,Are you good though.”
She nodded and started for the car when she remembered that the car engine did have trouble. She turned to him and said “Actually no, I need help with my engine.”
